The urniary bladder scan is a test where we check for postvoid residual urine volume. It is the amount of urine left over in urinary bladder after urinating. It helps to screen for diseases causing urinary retention or imcomplete emptying of the urinary bladder. The retained urine can act as reservoir for bacteria, which can cause lower urinary tract infections. Infections of lower urinary tact can further complicate to urosepsis or damage to renal structures. Also, incomplete emptying of the bladder causes frequent, day and night time urination. This condition can be screened by simple, non-invasive test called bladder scan. It is done by portable ultrasound device and a hand- held scanner.
