Mantoux test is known by different names such as Mantoux tuberculin test, PPD test, or Tb skin test. It is used for screening tuberculosis exposure. It tells if your body has been exposed to the TB germ. It is a simple test where a small amount of liquid is injected under the top layer of skin usually on your forearm. Then the test is read after 48-72 hours. Positive test is just sign of exposure to the TB bacteria and itself is not indicative of tuberculosis. One should not repeat the test if it is positive. We do this test on a daily basis in our office and no appointment(s) is necessary.
